Choose your language when you sign up

The portal speaks English and German, but until now it only worked out which one you wanted after you had finished signing up — so if your computer was set to German, you still filled in the sign-up form, and read your first screens, in English.

Sign-up now starts with a language picker, already set to your computer's own language. Change it and the form switches over immediately, so you can see the choice take effect before you commit to it.

Your language is no longer buried in Settings either: it sits on your profile page, next to your bio and links, and you can change it there whenever you like. Wherever you change it, it is the same setting — the two never disagree.

Dates and calendars follow your language too. They previously used the language of the server the portal runs on, which meant German users saw English month names in date pickers no matter what they had chosen.
